Boys basketball playoffs: Big Sandy to face North Hopkins after Clarksville ruled ineligible by UIL

No. 4 Big Sandy is getting ready for the regional quarterfinals of the boys basketball playoffs on Tuesday.
The Wildcats (28-4) were scheduled to take on No. 12 Clarksville at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Vernon High School.

On Monday, Big Sandy was informed that Clarksville has been ruled ineligible for the rest of the postseason.
Greg Higgins of East Texas Broadcasting posted on Twitter: “Due (to) a UIL rules violation, Clarksville is out of the basketball playoffs. North Hopkins (which lost to Clarksville on Friday in OT) will be playing Big Sandy Tuesday night.”
Clarksville ISD posted on its Facebook page, “Due to a false interpretation of UIL rules, Clarksville will not be playing tomorrow night vs. Big Sandy,” and North Hopkins Athletics posted on its Facebook page that North Hopkins advanced because of Clarksville using an ineligible player.
Big Sandy head coach Kerry Strong confirmed the change via email Monday afternoon and said the time and location would remain the same, just a different opponent for his team.
Big Sandy is coming off a 69-47 win over Merit Bland in the area round behind 39 points, 17 rebounds, eight steals and five assists from Josiah Johnson.
North Hopkins originally fell to Clarksville 48-46 in overtime on Friday.

The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to take on either Lindsay or No. 2 Muenster in the Class 2A, Region II semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday at McKinney Boyd High School.
