Driver in Tyler are paying some of the lowest prices in the state.

Tyler has some of the cheapest gas in the state, according to the AAA Texas weekly price survey.

For the week that ended Jan. 10, the average price of unleaded gas in Tyler was $1.83 a gallon, which was the same as last week.

Many stations in Tyler are selling gas below $1.80 and some as low as $1.71, according to the posting of gas prices at stations.

Only Amarillo at $1.82 a gallon had a lower average unleaded gas price than Tyler, according to the survey.

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $1.92 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, which is 1 cent less than last week and 34 cents less per gallon compared with this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Midland are paying the most on average at $2.48.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.23, which is 2 cents less than this day last week and 28 cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

Despite record motor vehicle travel for the year-end holiday period, demand for retail gasoline in the U.S. continued to decline, suggesting that demand this winter could be lower than expected.

With demand at its lowest point since February 2017 and the fact that the global crude market continues to be oversupplied, retail gasoline prices continue falling in many areas, the AAA report said.

OPEC recently announced plans to tighten global supplies. The move is likely going to cause oil prices to increase this year and eventually retail gasoline prices will likely increase, as well.

“Drivers in Texas continue to enjoy savings at the pump as demand for retail gasoline in the U.S. reaches an almost two-year low and the global crude market is oversupplied,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico spokesperson. “Motorists can find the cheapest gas in their area by downloading the AAA Mobile App for free on their iPhone, iPad and Android. AAA Texas reminds drivers to never drive intoxicated or intexticated.”

Seven South and Southeast states are among the top 10 with cheapest gas prices in the country and include Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, Alabama and Texas.

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free and revamped AAA App for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route and learn traffic conditions along that route, find discounts, locate parking, book a hotel and request and track AAA roadside assistance.
