Officials: Murder suspect shot father, called 911, arrested without incident

A Tyler man is dead and his son is in custody after a Monday night shooting. 

Tony Terrell Chase, 32, of Tyler, called 911 to tell authorities he had just shot his father, Edward Rolando Blaylock, 51, and believed that he was dead.  



Deputies from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 8:36 p.m. to the 5700 block of County Road 129 in southeastern Smith County. 

Chase was taken into custody without incident when deputies arrived. After investigators interviewed Chase, a Smith County judge issued an arrest warrant for murder. 

Deputies went into the house and found Blaylock with gunshot wounds to his body.

Blaylock was not responsive and no pulse was detected by deputies. 

The residence was cleared and no one else was harmed, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Andy Dunklin conducted an inquest and ordered Blaylock’s body moved to Forensic Medical in Tyler for an autopsy.  

Chase was charged with the murder and booked into the jail about 2:48 a.m., according to the inmate booking report for Tuesday. 

He was being held on a $750,000 bond, according to jail records.
