Lee’s Limmer, Longview’s King earn first-team honors

Robert E. Lee’s standout offensive lineman Beaux Limmer and Longview’s strong-armed and fleet-footed quarterback Haynes King were voted first team on the 2018 Texas Associated Press Sports Editors Class 6A all-state high school football team that was released Thursday.
King was also named the Offensive Player of the Year.

The team is based on regular-season performances and is voted on by sports writers around the state.
Limmer, who signed Wednesday with the University of Arkansas, was one of the top offensive linemen in the state, regardless of classification, and graded out at 95 percent for the Red Raiders.
The senior did not allow a sack the entire season and had 88 pancake blocks.
King, who has the Lobos in the Class 6A Division II title game on Saturday, threw for 28 touchdowns with only one interception in leading the Lobos to the District 11-6A championship. He hit on 123 of 177 pass attempts for 2,414 yards.
Garland Sachse defensive back Braylen Brooks was voted Defensive Player of the Year. The senior had nine interceptions with four returned for touchdowns. He also had 13 tackles, 12 pass breakups and returned a punt for a TD.
Two Longview players earned second-team honors — senior offensive lineman Marcus Harry and wide receiver Kamden Perry.

Two Lobos earned honorable mention — defensive lineman Jaylon Allen and linebacker Jephaniah Lister.
The AP Player of the Year will be announced this weekend.
