A plan to replace the roof on Tyler Public Library is moving forward.

The Tyler City Council approved a contract for $316,106 with Arcadia Roofing of Dallas to replace the roof of the structure on South College Avenue.

Gary Smith, the city’s facilities services supervisor, said the library’s roof was installed in 1985 and has outlasted its expected life.

“For a long time we’ve wanted to replace the roof at the library,” Smith said. He added that taxpayers have gotten their money’s worth out of the existing roof.

Smith said the city budgeted $436,900 in fiscal year 2019 to replace the roof, and the low bid will save the city about $120,000.

“I am excited about my roof,” he said.
