Tyler Classical Academy continues to grow, and a new high school is in the works to accommodate its climbing enrollment.
The open-enrollment charter school, at 3405 E. Grande Blvd., has been in its current location for about two years, moving there after previously renting space from the Stepping Stone School. The new new high school is being built on the Grande Boulevard campus.

It currently enrolls about 450 students in grades K through 10, and will add a new class next year. The first round of graduates will get to spend a year in the new $6 million, 37,000-square-foot high school after it opens in August.
Tyler Classical focuses on building students academically and preparing them for the rigors of college.
The expansion is part of system-wide growth for Tyler Classical’s parent organization, Responsive Education Solutions, which operates a network of more than 70 charter schools across Texas.
Anthony Edwards, vice president of activations, said the new facility also will allow the school to increase class sizes to meet a projected capacity of 1,000 students in grades K through 12 by the time it adds a senior class in two years.
“Our vision is to create a school that focuses on high academic rigor and thinking classrooms,” Edwards said.
The new high school portion of the campus will include classrooms, a music room, laboratories, an art room, library and cafeteria.

The primary component of that classical education focuses on exposure to humanities, with Latin being the school’s key foreign language offering.
Edwards said Responsive Education Solutions hopes to build Tyler Classical into a world-class center of learning for students in East Texas.
