If a brightly colored Tyler building’s large cowboy-hat-shaped roof hasn’t already caught the attention of passersby, then its new mustache just might.
On Wednesday, King Tortas will open its third location at 220 SSW Loop 323, followed by the grand opening on Saturday.

Just as the building’s new occupants have put a small twist on the façade, customers can expect similar interpretations on classic Mexican food staples offered on the menu.
The Mega Burrito is 20 inches long and features fajita beef, chorizo, beans, grilled onions, tomato, avocado, mozzarella, cilantro and several sauces.
Another item large enough to easily be shared is the restaurant’s Pizzadilla, essentially a large, eight-sliced quesadilla stuffed with steak, pork, grilled onions, guacamole, rice, cheese, lettuce and more.
The restaurant’s popular tacos and the five for $5 special, a deal King Tortas is known for, will also be offered at the newest location.
While these menu items may appeal to some, Aaron Villanueva, 23, of Tyler, who operates both King Tortas No. 2 and the newest restaurant, said customers shouldn’t leave without trying one of the restaurants 15 different types of tortas, mostly in the $5 to $10 range.
Aaron said the Torta Loca is a customer favorite. The dish features three different meats and both cilantro and a chipotle sauce that are intended to add a hint of spice.

His father Juan Villanueva opened the first location in 2003, making his focus on tortas because no other local restaurant specialized in serving the dish.
“At first it was the tacos that everybody would know, (but) they’re starting to get to know the tortas,” he said. “We have the best tortas.”
Aaron, who learned to cook in his early teens and has run King Tortas No. 2 since he was 19, said playing an active role in the family business has allowed him to help others through offering both employment and business advice.
“It feels good to be a leader and to try to make more people entrepreneurs,” he said. “We try to get the most people we can to be positive.”
