“Crime & Punishment” (Aug. 24) An award-winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, this documentary from director Stephen Maing goes behind the scenes of the New York Police Department to expose its many problems and questionable practices.
“Mother!” (Aug. 26) From ”Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky comes this 2017 horror movie that stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as a couple whose tranquil lives are upended by the arrival of uninvited houseguests. Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer also star.
“The First” (Sept. 14) Beau Willimon (”House of Cards”) is the creator force behind this sci-fi/drama series about the first manned mission to Mars. Sean Penn, Natascha McElhone, LisaGay Hamilton and Melissa George lead a solid cast. (ORIGINAL SERIES)
