BALTIMORE (AP) — Ryan Rua had a tiebreaking, pinch-hit three-run homer in the seventh inning and the Texas Rangers held on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak.

Cole Hamels (5-8) won for the first time in almost a month, allowing four runs and five hits with three strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings in a matchup of last-place teams.

Rua broke a 1-1 deadlock with the first pinch-hit of his career, off rookie Tanner Scott. Nomar Mazara added an RBI double later that inning, which made it 5-1 and boosted Scott’s ERA from 5.88 to 6.84 over 26 appearances.

Baltimore pulled within a run on Caleb Joseph’s three-run double against reliever Jose Leclerc in the bottom half of the inning. The Orioles loaded the bases in the eighth but Jake Diekman got out of the jam by getting Chris Davis on a short pop out.

Keone Kela got the last three outs for his 23rd save.

The Orioles have lost 17 of 20 and fell to 14-33 at Camden Yards, the second-worst home mark in the majors behind Kansas City.

Joey Gallo gave the Rangers the lead when he led off the fifth with a home run off Alex Cobb (2-12). The Orioles answered in the bottom half when Adam Jones hit a double just inside the left-field foul line and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Valencia.

Cobb left his previous start against the Twins in the sixth inning with a blister on his right index finger. He did not appear hampered by the injury and allowed two runs and six hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 6 1/3 innings.

STREAKS EXTENDED

Rangers DH Shin-Soo Choo, who was celebrating his 36th birthday, hit a single in the third to extend his club record on-base streak to 49 games. It’s also the longest streak in the majors in the last 10 years. … Hamels has struck out at least one batter in 320 straight games.

METS 4, NATIONALS 2

NEW YORK (AP) — Noah Synder-gaard pitched out of trouble in a rusty return from the disabled list and helped himself with an RBI single as the New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Friday night.

Amed Rosario tripled and doubled, both times over Bryce Harper’s head in center field, and the Mets won for only the sixth time in their last 26 home games. Brandon Nimmo had three hits for New York, which built a three-run cushion in the first inning against struggling starter Tanner Roark.

Roark (3-12) became the first 12-game loser in the majors this season. He allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings.

BLUE JAYS 13, RED SOX 7

BOSTON (AP) — Kevin Pillar had four hits and Justin Smoak had three, including a pair of homers, and they drove in four runs apiece to help Toronto snap Boston’s 10-game winning streak.

Dwight Smith Jr. also homered for Toronto, which won for the second time in six games. Jake Petricka (1-0) pitched two innings of shutout ball in relief of Ryan Borucki, who lasted just three-plus innings but left with an 8-6 lead.

Mookie Betts had three hits, including two triples, to raise his major league-leading batting average to .357. J.D. Martinez had two hits for the Red Sox, who won 15 of their previous 17 games and will head into the All-Star break with the best record in baseball and the AL East lead.

PHILLIES 2, MARLINS 0

MIAMI (AP) — Aaron Altherr drove in his first run of July and later started a sensational relay to protect the lead, helping Jake Arrieta and Philadelphia top the Miami.

Arrieta (7-6) pitched seven innings of three-hit ball. Victor Arano got three outs and Pat Neshek finished the three-hitter for his first save.

Maikel Franco hit his 13th homer of the season in the ninth for the Phillies, who have won 10 of their last 13.

INDIANS 6, YANKEES 5

CLEVELAND (AP) — Rookie righthander Shane Bieber pitched into the eighth inning and Cleveland’s shaky bullpen narrowly closed things out.

Bieber (5-1) was removed after Tyler Wade’s leadoff double in the eighth and Cleveland leading 6-3. Brett Gardner’s RBI groundout cut the lead to two and set up a tense ninth inning.

Closer Cody Allen, who allowed a career-high six runs in the ninth inning against Cincinnati on Tuesday, gave up Giancarlo Stanton’s leadoff homer but recorded his 19th save in 20 chances.

The Indians broke a seven-game losing streak against the Yankees dating to last season’s AL Division Series when New York came back from a 2-0 deficit. The Yankees won the first four games between the teams this season.

PIRATES 7, BREWERS 3

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Josh Bell tied a career with four hits, Gregory Polanco homered and both drove in two runs to lead Pittsburgh over Milwaukee.

The fourth-place Pirates have won five of their last six. First-place Milwaukee has lost four of five and its lead has been cut to a half-game over the Chicago Cubs.

DIAMONDBACKS 2, BRAVES 1

ATLANTA (AP) — Nick Ahmed hit a tiebreaking single in the seventh after Zack Godley allowed a run over six innings and Arizona beat Atlanta.

Both teams began the week in first place but have since fallen out. The Diamondbacks began the night a half game behind the Dodgers in the NL West. The Braves fell 1 1/2 games behind NL East-leading Philadelphia.
