FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — XTO Energy plans to close its downtown Fort Worth headquarters and relocate hundreds of the 1,200 jobs to the Houston area.

XTO, a subsidiary of Irving-based Exxon Mobil Corp., on May 8 notified the Texas Workforce Commission as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act. Employers must provide notice 60 days in advance of plant closures or mass layoffs.

Exxon Mobil spokeswoman Suann Guthrie said Tuesday that the company has about 9,000 workers in the Houston area. Guthrie says relocating XTO workers, in a plan announced last year, will enable more collaboration with other company operations.

Guthrie says about 950 employees will relocate to the campus in Spring. About 250 additional employees were impacted, with three-fourths getting other company jobs or relocating. About 65 workers will be laid off.
