The first day of summer is technically June 21, but fun in the sun is coming June 2, when the city of Tyler opens its pool and splash pads to the public.

Fun Forest Pool, 900 N. Glenwood Blvd., will be staffed with lifeguards. It is an Olympic-sized pool built in 1938 as a Works Progress Administration project.

It will be open Tuesday through Saturday with varying hours. It will be closed Sunday and Monday. The facility will close for the season Aug. 11,

Fun Forest will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. There is a designated lap swim time from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It is open from 1 to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Most Popular

Entrance to the pool is free to the public, but there is a suggested donation of $2 per adult and $1 per child under 17.

Children ages 13 to 18 can come without an adult, if their parent or legal guardian first fills out an emergency card for the pool to keep on file. An adult must accompany children under 12.

Swimmers are required to wear qualified swimming gear — cotton is not allowed in the pool. Toddlers and babies must wear swim diapers.

Undergarments are not allowed under bathing suits, and swimmers cannot wear cotton shirts over their swimsuit. Swimmers must also bring their own gear, including towels and sunscreen. Coolers are permitted, but glass is not.

SPLASH GROUNDS

The city’s splash grounds also will open. Those are in Faulkner Park, Woldert Park and at Fun Forest Park.

The splash ground at Fun Forest will keep the same hours as the pool, but the others will be open during park hours, from sun-up to sundown.

The splash pads will also be open longer than the pools. They will close when the weather gets cool.
