TJC golfers place seventh at national tournament

FOLEY, Ala. — The Tyler Junior College golf team finished seventh in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament that concluded on Thursday at Glen Lakes Golf Club.

TJC’s Tyler Kaman finished in the top 10 to receive All-America honors. Kaman, a freshman from Fredericksburg, placed eighth in the medalist race with a 2-under 286 (72-72-71-71) in the 72-hole tournament.

It was a tight race for first in the team race.

Mississippi Gulf Coast won the national title with a 1,150, followed by Meridian (Mississippi) (1,151), Parkland (Illinois) (1,153), South Mountain (Arizona) (1,154), Kirkwood (Iowa) (1,171), Abraham Baldwin (Georgia) (1,183), Tyler (1,189), Southeast (Nebraska) (1,194), Mott (Michigan) (1,208) and Rend Lake (Illinois) (1,213).



South Mountain’s Leon D’Souza earned medalist honors with an 8-under 280 (73-71-67-69), followed by teammate Jeffrey Miller with a 7-under 281 (72-67-71-71). Placing third was Southeast’s Noah Nofman at 6-under 282 (72-69-69-72).

Other Apache golfers and their finishes include: T33, Darryl Fulgham, freshman from New Braunfels, 71-77-74-76—298; T41, Ethan Bozner, sophomore from Rock Springs, Wyoming, 72-75-76-78—301; T64, Will Traylor, freshman from Midlothian, 74-81-76-78—309; and 89, Jonathan Shelton, sophomore from Bullard, 83-76-87-84—330.
