Eight golfers qualify for UT Tyler Southside Bank Patriot Hole-In-One final

Wednesday’s competition saw eight golfers qualify for the finals during the third  day of the 32nd annual UT Tyler Southside Bank Patriot Hole-In-One contest.

Wednesday’s qualifiers and their distance from the pin include: Rich Legler, Whitehouse, 12 inches; Mike Russell, Tyler, 20 inches; Mechele Mills, Tyler, 24; Michael Cearley, Troup, 30 inches; Ed Barret, Tyler, 48 inches; Hugh Champion, Tyler, 53 inches; Sam Oliphant, Tyler, 69 inches; and Matthew Allen, Tyler, 96 inches.

The contest offers amateur golfers age 18 and older the opportunity to compete for a chance to win $1 million. The qualifying site is at the University of Texas at Tyler practice soccer field at 3900 University Blvd.

The UT Tyler Patriot Million Dollar Hole-In-One event has provided scholarship opportunities for dozens of current and past UT Tyler students for more than 30 years. To date, the UT Tyler Patriot Endowed Scholarship foundation has raised more than $2 million for deserving UT Tyler students.



Each day golfers qualify for the finals set for Sunday at Hollytree Country Club.

Schedule for the week:

Thursday — Qualifying 4-8 p.m.; Corporate Lanes, 5-8 p.m.

Friday — Qualifying 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Seniors Day at the Hole-in-One (additional senior qualifiers — anyone of age 65 or older with a valid photo ID will receive an additional 10 free shots for every 25 purchased plus a free Lunch. Seniors will also be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes. Friday Night Lights qualifying is 7 to 11 p.m. (qualifiers each hour).

Saturday — Qualifying 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday — Finals are 4:30 p.m. at Hollytree Country Club.
