Services for Richard George “Dick” Borrmann, 86, of Tyler, will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Cathedral of the Pines Cemetery in Tyler.
Mr. Borrmann went Home on Saturday, May 12, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 13, 1931 to William A. and Rosa F. Borrmann. He attended Olney High School, where his favorite activity was pitching for the baseball team, including a no-hitter. After graduating in 1950, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of Aviation Electrician, Yeoman 1st Class. On April 12, 1952 he married Lois Jane Barth of Philadelphia, his beloved wife of 61 years.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Dick worked for a short time at AT&T in Philadelphia, before relocating his family to Corpus Christi, Texas where he had been stationed in the Navy. There he worked for Central Power and Light Company and Exxon and attended Del Mar College, taking evening pre-engineering courses. In 1969, Dick accepted employment as a piping designer with Howe-Baker Engineers Inc. in Tyler. After earning a Civil Engineering degree in 1972, he worked as a civil/structural design engineer until retiring January 1, 1997. His engineering responsibilities for refinery projects included considerable U.S. and international travel.
Dick loved music. He studied violin and voice. In younger years, he was a member of the Olney Symphony Orchestra, a Philadelphia community orchestra. For many years, Dick served large and small Corpus Christi and Tyler church congregations as part-time or interim music director, usually with his wife, Lois, as church pianist. He also served as Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher and member of various church committees. He was a former member of the Tyler Civil Chorale. Dick took his health seriously and was a jogging and exercise fanatic. His underlying desire was to live all aspects of life from a Godly perspective and to glorify God by his words and actions. He delighted in sharing Scriptural principles and how God blessed his life with family, friends and new acquaintances.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jane Borrmann; his parents, William A. and Rosa F. Borrmann; his brother, Walter W. Borrmann and his sister, Gertrude R. Parmer. He is survived by two daughters; Deborah Kay Stacey and husband, Tim, of Rosharon, Texas, and Cynthia Beth Borrmann, of Nacogdoches, Texas; one son, Richard W. (Rick) Borrmann and wife, Bonnie of Tyler, Texas; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
