Tyler Lee’s Fernandez tosses no-hitter against North Mesquite

MESQUITE — Zach Fernandez tossed a no-hitter in leading the Tyler Lee Red Raiders to a 12-0 victory over the North Mesquite Stallions in a District 11-6A baseball game at Copeland Field.

Fernandez struck out seven and walked only two in five innings of work.

He also shined at the plate, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. He had two singles and a double.

Teammate David Randall matched him with three hits — a home run shy of the cycle — with five RBIs. Randall had a triple, double and single.



Rhett Parker had two doubles and two RBIs for the Red Raiders, while Trevor Doke added a double and two RBIs. Matt Hittle contributed a single.

Scoring runs for Lee were Doke (3), Randall (3), Noah Fuhrman (2), Jake Adams (2), Kyler Keener and Fernandez.

The Red Raiders, who defeated Longview Pine Tree 6-1 on Saturday, will meet John Tyler in two games this week – at JT on Tuesday and hosting JT on Friday. Both games have 7 p.m. starts scheduled at Mike Carter Field.

Lee will honor its seniors on Friday.

REL has won three straight to improve to 18-9-1 overall. The Red Raiders are tied with Rockwall and Mesquite Horn for second in 11-6A with a 9-3 mark. Rockwall-Heath leads the league at 11-1.

The Stallions fell to 4-15 and 3-9.
