JT’s Humber captures two gold medals; Lee’s Ellis, Knight also take first in area track meet

THE WOODLANDS — John Tyler hurdler Ke’Tavion Humber won two gold medals with Tyler Lee’s Haftu Knight and Branson Ellis also striking gold in Friday’s District 11-12 6A Area Track & Field Meet at The Woodlands High School.

Along with Humber, Knight and Ellis, others advancing to the regional meet from Tyler include JT’s Caleb McMiller, Kitan Crawford and the Lions’ 4×100 relay along with REL’s 4×400 relay.
Also, John Tyler finished third as a team in the boys meet (72 points). The Woodlands won with 121 points, followed by The Woodlands College Park (80). Longview placed fifth (58) with Tyler Lee sixth (48) and Lufkin ninth (20).
In the girls meet, The Woodlands also won with 121 points, followed by Rockwall (94.5) and Conroe Oak Ridge (90.5). East Texas teams were: 7, Longview, 35.5; 11, Tyler Lee, 13; 12, Lufkin, 4; 13, John Tyler, 1.
The Class 6A Region II Meet is scheduled for April 27-28 at Midway High School in Waco. The top two finishers in each area meet event advance to regionals.
Humber, who is scheduled to sign a track scholarship with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, won double gold in the hurdles just as he did in the District 11-6A meet on April 5 in Mesquite.
Humber won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.28 seconds. District mate Brodrick Calhoun of Mesquite Horn was second (14.55). At district, Humber clocked in at 14.42.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Humber ran to a time of 38.11. At district, Humber was 38.86. Calhoun was second again at 38.20.
Ellis, who signed with Stephen F. Austin earlier this week, won the pole vault with a leap of 17 feet.
Ellis, the defending Class 6A state champion, broke his personal record of 16-10. Second place went to The Woodlands College Park’s Jake Dillow (14-6).
Knight, who placed third in the cross country state meet in the fall, won the 3200-meter run in a time of nine minutes and 15.01 seconds. Gavin Hoffpauir of The Woodlands was second at 9:16.38. Knight bettered his district time by more than 10 seconds.
Knight also claimed silver in 1600-meters with a time of 4:17.91, just behind Hoffpauir (4:17.73).
McMiller took the silver in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 10.65, just behind The Woodlands’ Kesean Carter (10.64). McMiller won the district meet in 10.41.
Crawford won silver by placing second in the long jump with a leap of 21-8¼. Soro Abrama of Mesquite Horn won with 21-11½.
Humber, Crawford and McMiller joined Michael Givens-Washington as part of JT’s 400-meter relay team’s second-place finish. The silver medalists clocked in at 41.18. The Woodlands won at 40.61.
JT’s 4×200 relay took the bronze in 1:27.30. Crawford and Givens-Washington were joined by Keandre Ray and Dyvione Patterson on the team. The Woodlands won with a time of 1:26.83, followed by Longview (1:27.07).
Robert E. Lee placed second in the 4×400 relay. Lee, whose team consisted of Daylon Harris, Zaylon Walker, Matt Taylor and Garrett Gowin, clocked in at 3:19.34. The Woodlands College Park won with a time of 3:17.86.
In the girls meet, Tyler Lee’s Kaila Hall won a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.48. Mesquite’s Dazjah Wheeler was first at 12.34, followed by The Woodlands College Park’s Journi Williams (12.43).
Also taking bronze was REL’s Genisis Emanuel in the 300-meter hurdles (46.35).
