A Palestine man was arrested just before Christmas for evading arrest and possession of methamphetamines.

On Dec. 29, a Palestine police sergeant attempted to make a traffic stop on a white Cadillac on West Spring Street, near Upper Lake Road, according to a Palestine Police Department news release.

The officer turned on his emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle accelerated, eventually traveling west on Farm-to-Market Road 320.

During the pursuit, the driver was seen throwing a substance out of the driver’s window, according to the department.

Officers pursued the vehicle for about 7.5 miles, ending with the vehicle stopping at Lone Pine Baptist Church.

The driver, identified as Charles Goree, 64, of Palestine, was taken into custody. Officers were able to recover about 25 grams of suspected methamphetamine that was thrown out during the pursuit.

Goree was booked into the Anderson County Jail on the charges of evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, tampering with evidence, and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1, between 4 and 200 grams.

His bonds totaled $17,500, according to the agency.
