Services for Clois Eugene (Gene) Brooks, 96, of Tyler will be at 1O AM Saturday, December 23, 2017 in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Andrew McConnell and Reverend Sherman Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow in Bascom Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Clois Brooks passed away at home on December 15, 2017 on his 96th birthday. He was born December 15, 1921 in Moran, Texas to the late Sydney Eugene and Montie Oxley Brooks. He graduated from Moran high school in 1941 where he participated in many sports. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and proudly served his country until October 1945. He served on several ships in the South Pacific during World War II. He met the love of his life Kathleen Hardy in New York City. They married on February 28, 1945 and began their life together in Andover, New Jersey. They were married for 63 years and raised three daughters in Hobbs New Mexico. He was an electrician for Exxon and developed a farm in New Mexico. He spent over 30 years salmon fishing on Vancouver Island, Canada during the summers and dancing the nights away in Pharr, Texas during the winters. In addition to his parents and siblings he was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Brooks, sons-in-law Lupe Cordero and Dr. Donald Oglesby and grandsons Larry Brumley, Greg Brumley, and Jeff Stroud.

Mr. Brooks’ Legacy lives on through his devoted and loving family. He is survived by his three daughters, Glenda and husband, LG Brumley of Llano, Texas, Patricia Brooks Oglesby of Tyler, Texas, and Diana Cordero of Stuttgart, Germany, grandchildren, Karla and Doug Helton, Kathy Stroud, Mari Haley and Andrew McConnell, and Paul Eugene Wile. He adored his many great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. He was determined to live to see the birth of his youngest great great-grandson Jonathan Storey and was blessed to share the first eight months of his life.
The family expresses deep appreciation for all the support, assistance, and love given by so many during his life and his illness. We extend special gratitude to Barbara Higginbotham for her love and exceptional care of our father during the past three years. Her love and tenderness helped fill his final years with happiness.
