Basketball: Tyler Junior College Apaches win season opener over Brookhaven

The Tyler Junior College men’s basketball team took control in the final eight minutes of the first half in a 106-89 victory over Brookhaven on Friday at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

Hosting the Chris Booker Classic, the Apaches (1-0) took charge of their season opener with a 29-9 run to end the first half with a 20-point cushion, 56-36. The score was 27-27 with 8:25 left in the first half.



Brookhaven cut the margin to 15 with 3:20 left in the game, but the Apaches were not threatened.

The contest featured 26 3-pointers – 16 for Brookhaven and 10 for TJC, which was led by Brian Warren’s 21 points and four 3-pointers. Warren is a sophomore point guard from Indianapolis.

The Chris Booker Classic continues Saturday at TJC.
