It’s flu season and early prevention is key to give your body time to build immunity. 

The VA North Texas Health Care System is reminding all veteran patients to get a flu shot. 

Veterans can receive flu shots at the Tyler VA Outpatient Clinic during their regular clinic appointments or at walk-in and drive-thru times.

Walk-in hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Tyler VA Outpatient Clinic, 7916 S. Broadway Ave.

Drive-thru hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the front parking lot of the Tyler VA Outpatient Clinic, 7916 S. Broadway Ave. 

Flu shots are available at all VA North Texas facilities and community-based outpatient clinics for veterans with an honorable discharge from the military.

Veterans must present their veteran identification card, discharge certificate or DD214.

Anyone who is allergic to eggs must see a provider for further discussion. Everyone, especially high risk groups including the elderly and people with certain health conditions, should receive a flu vaccination each year.

Rest at home and drink plenty of liquids should flu-like symptoms develop, including fever, cough or sore throat.

Over-the-counter flu medications may relieve symptoms, but consult your doctor for possible interactions with other medications you are taking. Alcohol and tobacco should be avoided. Call 911 if you develop difficulty breathing, chest pain, pressure, dizziness, confusion or severe vomiting.
