Tyler Solid Waste to sell pink trash cans in October for breast cancer awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month, and the city of Tyler is raising awareness with bright pink trash cans and recycling bins.

They can be purchased for $98 each.

Solid Waste Manager Leroy Sparrow said residents could purchase the 96-gallon cans to replace the standard green can. If a resident wants to keep both cans, and have two, it’s a $9.50 charge per month.

Sparrow said the city purchased a set of pink cans several years ago for breast cancer events, like the city’s Turn Tyler Pink event on the downtown square.

Since then, residents have been asking if they can purchase one.

A portion of the sale, $5, will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the cure.

Residents can either download and fill out a pink cart agreement at www.cityoftyler.org/Departments/Solidwaste, or residents can fill one out in person at the solid waste office, 414 N. Bois D’Arc.

Sparrow asked residents to be patient for the new cart. They are on special order from the manufacturer and can take four months to arrive.
