Top 3 Quarterbacks

1. Trae Hall, Henderson – In a 35-21 win over Chapel Hill, Hall passed for two touchdowns (36, 32), caught a scoring pass (17) and ran one in (3) to help the Lions stay undefeated and win their District 9-4A Division I opener.

2. Aaron Brown, Gilmer – In a 51-49 win over Nacogdoches, Brown overcame two interceptions by passing for three touchdowns (39, 17,12) and ran in two more scores (17, 2) to help the Buckeyes rally back from a 14-0 deficit and bounce back from its first loss to raise its record to 4-1.

3. Jaylon Jimmerson, Pittsburg – In a 41-28 win over Tatum, Jimmerson led the Pirates back from a 28-6 halftime deficit. He scored on runs of 3, 35, 8 and 8 while connecting on TD passes of 33 and 65 yards to help Pittsburg raise its record to 3-2.

 

Top 3 Receivers

1. Ja’Von Coleman, Pine Tree – In a 55-47 win over Sulphur Springs, Pine Tree’s Coleman caught three passes from QB Wade Seidel, all touchdowns (79, 95, 27) to finish with 201 yards and help the Pirates win their district opener for the first time in 16 years.

2. Tyler Hobbs, Bishop Gorman – In a 49-13 homecoming win over Carrollton Prince of Peace, Hobbs accounted for eight catches for 153 yards and scored two TDs (12, 24).

3. (TIE) Robbie Williams, Chapel Hill/James Sowards, Nacogdoches – In a 35-21 loss to Henderson, Williams caught three TD passes from QB Khalan Griffin (9, 3, 15). In a two-point Nacogdoches loss to Gilmer, Sowards caught three TD passes from QB Jake Smith (13, 12, 59).

 

Top 3 Running Backs

1. A’Darius Carter, Longview – Listed as a quarterback, but for all intents and purposes Carter was a battering ram tailback in a 54-26 win over Tyler Lee. He scored five touchdowns out of the Wildcat on runs of 2, 38, 9, 2 and 5. Carter also caught a 20-yard pass as Longview bounced back from a district-opening loss.

2. D.J. Click, Harmony – In a 49-28 win over White Oak, Click scored four touchdowns on runs of 1, 10, 3 and 1 as the Eagles remained undefeated at 5-0.

3. Josh Ashford, Elkhart – In a 35-34 win over Palestine Westwood, Ashford rushed 30 times for 204 yards and scored three touchdowns, highlighted by a 54-yard scoring jaunt to help Elkhart win its District 9-3A Division I opener and raise its overall record to 3-1.

 

Top 3 Defenses/Special Teams

1. John Tyler – In a 44-7 win over North Mesquite, the Lions limited the Stallions to 171 total yards. Meanwhile, JT linebacker Tre Allison returned an interception for a 28-yard touchdown and Michael Givens-Washington returned a punt 56 yards for a touchdown. Kicker Frankie Sanchez was 5 for 5 on PATs and booted a 30-yard field goal as JT evened its District 11-6A record at 1-1.

2. Frankston – In a 62-14 win over All Saints, Frankston scored twice on special teams and once more on a turnover. Boogie Krajca returned two punts for TDs (55, 45) and Clayton Carnes also picked off a pass and returned it the other way for a 65-yard TD. The Indians (1-4) held All Saints’ potent rushing attack in check for their first win of the season.

3. (TIE) Harmony/Carlisle – In a 49-28 win over White Oak, the Harmony Eagles sacked White Oak quarterbacks eight times and had 11 tackles for loss with Cameron Helpenstill returning an interception 33 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles also got an interception by Drew McNeel with Easton Blackstone leading Harmony (5-0) with 12 tackles in the win. Meanwhile in Cayuga, the Carlisle Indians (5-0) continued their defensive dominance in a 66-0 win. Jay Price returned an interception for a 48-yard touchdown and Carlisle also forced two fumbles with Price and Fermin Garcia grabbing the recoveries. Brian Mendoza posted one of several sacks Carlisle had to bring his season-leading total to nine.
