Junior quarterback Devlen Woods tossed four touchdown passes to rally John Tyler to a 27-23 win over Ennis on a beautiful Friday night for football on Earl Campbell Field.

Woods led JT to 20 straight points as the Lions rallied from a 17-7 deficit in the 14th Annual Christus Trinity Mother Frances Football Classic at CTMF Rose Stadium before 7,500 fans.

The three straight TDs gave JT a 27-17 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Ennis scored on a 7-yard TD pass from Kade Graff to Hunter Garcia with 20 seconds remaining but JT’s Ke’Andre Street recovered the onside kick to preserve the win.

Ennis ran 71 plays to JT’s 44, but the home Lions made theirs count.

Woods hit on 8 of 15 pass attempts for 147 yards. He tossed TD passes of 20 (Roderick Hawkins), 16 (Jaivon Williams), 30 (Street) and 13 (Williams) yards.

Tycen Thompson led Ennis with 214 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. He would have had an 85-yard TD run, but a clipping penalty brought the ball back to the 50. He also had seven receptions for 49 yards.

JT’s defense held down James Harris (14-41), who ran wild last week in Ennis’ 29-28 loss to Dallas South Oak Cliff.

JT trailed 17-7 late in the first half when the Lions’ quick-strike attack went 58 yards on two plays – Woods to Street for 42 yards and 16 to Williams for the TD with 1:42 left in the first half. That got the team and the crowd going.

Cam Grant led JT with 91 yards on 17 carries.

Isaiah Johnson recovered a fumble for JT, while DK Goodson knocked down a pass and Dewayne Jones had a sack and Tyus Grayson kept pressure on the Ennis QB, Graff.
