Camping World Holdings has announced it will continue operating five Gander Outdoors stores in Texas, including its Tyler location.

The five Texas stores will be among 57 formerly Gander Mountain stores the company purchased nationwide that will remain open.

Besides the Tyler store others in Texas that will remain open will be in Spring, Amarillo, Fort Worth and Lewisville.

According to the company Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World Holdings, stated his intention of operating stores with a clear path to profitability and Camping World’s then current goal to operate seventy or more locations subject to, among other things, the ability to negotiate acceptable lease terms with landlords.

In a press release Lemonis stated, “Our original goal was to initially open seventy or more stores, and while our initial list is now less than seventy, we are not willing to open stores which we do not believe have a clear path to profitability.”

If details can be landlords and final acceptable leases agreed to, the locations in Texas and other states are expected to reopen under the new Gander Outdoors and Overton’s brand.

Lemonis said Gander Outdoors would be looking for other locations around the country going forward.

Since the original Gander Mountain filed bankruptcy there has been some confusion about the future of the stores because of going-out-of-business sales nationally. Camping World did not buy the inventory of Gander Mountain. Only the name and locations. The inventory was purchased by another company that held the going-out-of-business sale.
