A traffic stop in Henderson County near Payne Springs ended with the arrest of a 60-year-old Athens man.

A Henderson County deputy stopped Allen Ray Key for a traffic violation near the intersection of Cherokee Shores Drive and Texas Highway 198. 

Key was found to be in possession of what appeared to be methamphetamine. His vehicle was impounded and he was taken to the Henderson County Jail. 

Key was booked into the jail for the alleged possession of at least 1 gram of a controlled substance in penalty group 1.  He was held on $8,500 bond, according to Henderson County judicial records.

Key’s legal record in Henderson County dates back to 2005. He was released from jail on other charges on July 5.
