Stars set to shine in baseball, softball

The stars will dazzle on the diamond Friday and shine bright on the gridiron Saturday.
The Northeast Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes annual Heart of a Champion All-Star games are scheduled for Tyler and Longview this weekend.

The third annual Courtney Construction All-Star Softball Game and the second annual Mentoring Alliance All-Star Baseball Game are slated for Friday on the UT Tyler campus. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with the softball contest on Suddenlink Field and the baseball game on Irwin Field.
The seventh annual Chick-fil-A Heart of a Champion All-Star Football Game is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Longview High School’s Lobo Stadium.
The games are for graduating seniors from northeast Texas schools.
Ryan Walls, the Whitehouse High School standout who suffered an injury, missed all of basketball and baseball season. He is scheduled to play on Friday.
“I’m scheduled to pitch and maybe play a little first base,” said Walls, who is signed to play both basketball and baseball for Tyler Junior College. “I came here to throw an inning or so and have some fun. I’m sure the adrenalin will be going; I’m pumped for it.
“It means a lot of be chosen for this game, especially to be able to represent Whitehouse and being able play one more game in my high school career.”

Walls is on the Red Roster with Longview Spring Hill’s Mick Eckles serving as head coach. Bullard’s Chad Linder and Athens’ Dallas Robertson are the assistant coaches.
