The new owner of the lot that formerly housed the Tyler ISD’s aquatic center is one step closer to transforming the property into professional office space.

The city of Tyler’s planning and zoning commission approved Tyler ISD’s request to change .74 acres of land at 5201 New Copeland Road from a single-family residential district to a restricted professional office district on Tuesday. The school board voted to demolish the aquatic center in November to pave the way for a potential sale.

Communications Director Dawn Parnell said the board of trustees approved selling the property at its March 9 ,meeting and the potential buyer requested a zoning change. The district has not yet closed on the deal to sell the land and has been actively engaged in the process to seek rezoning on behalf of the potential buyer.
