Pegasus Project Horse Rescue, the Murchison ranch that takes in horses needing care and new homes, will hold its annual fundraiser, Wings Over Pegasus on April 22.
Airplanes and helicopters will be on view and Gladewater Experimental Aircraft Association/Young Eagles Program will offer free airplane rides to children ages 8 to 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 95-acre ranch, 7111 County Road 2339 near Murchison. Parking costs $5.
“The day will be a casual, carnival atmosphere with skydivers, face-painting, fun horse games, pony rides, arts and crafts and competitions for the whole family,” according to information from Allyson Decanio, who heads Pegasus Project.
Patrons will learn more about the horses and mission of Pegasus Project and can register to win tickets on Southwest Airlines.
Since it began in 2009, Pegasus Project has rescued, rehabilitated and found homes for hundreds of mistreated or abandoned horses, donkeys and mules, according to the announcement from Decanio.
Wings Over Pegasus is being held in conjunction with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Help A Horse Day. The ASPCA awards grants to nonprofit groups that hold events to raise awareness about the plight of neglected and abused horses.
