The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County to provide respite care.

The Phyllis and Milton Berg Respite Care Grant went to member organizations that provide respite services, such as adult day programs or in-home aides, to help provide family caregivers with breaks, according to a news release about it.

“This grant is a beacon of light for hundreds of families in our community – a light that shows them they are not alone; a light that lets them know there is help,” Beth Filla, development director for the Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County, said. “We are honored to receive this award and appreciate the opportunity to serve even more families in our community that are dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.”

The Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County provides programs and services to people with dementia and their caregivers. 

These include: caregiver support groups, tracking for wanderers, a day respite program, educational seminars, training for care professionals and free, confidential memory screenings. 

Through community partnerships, the alliance aims to provide the best resources it can to the people it serves, according to the news release.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is a nonprofit organization that unites more than 2,600 member organizations nationwide with the goal of providing the best care and services to people living with dementia, their caregivers and their families.
