The 22nd annual Gemstone, Rock and Jewelry Showcase, put on by the East Texas Gem and Mineral Society, opened Friday at the Tyler Rose Garden Center, 420 Rose Park Drive.
The region’s largest annual showcase of rocks features gemstones, jewelry, minerals, fossils and supplies.
The show, which continues this weekend, has demonstrations and dozens of displays by collectors and vendors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
At $5 for adults and $1 for students and children, visitors can see rock collections and vendors who sell jewelry-making, lapidary and earth science products, according to information from Keith Harmon, the show’s publicity chairman.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in uniform are admitted free.
Mineral specimens, precious gemstones, gold and silver jewelry, geodes and uncut stones are among the attractions.
The show includes activities for children and chances for patrons to win items each hour and take part in a drawing for a grand prize.
The East Texas Gem and Mineral Society meets at 6:45 p.m. each Monday at Discovery Science Place in Tyler.
