John Tyler boys out of Romines Classic after lost coin flip

LONGVIEW – John Tyler’s run at the Leroy Romines Classic ended with a lost coin flip on Thursday.

The Lions finished second in their group to advance to the Gold Bracket but were paired with District 11-6A rival Longview. The two opted to flip a coin and the Lobos won to advance to the tournament semifinals.

Longview will play Class 6A No. 1 Houston Sam Houston at 1 p.m. while Center plays Pro Vision at 2:30 p.m. The Silver Bracket semifinals see Lufkin face Liberty-Eylau and Buna play Pine Tree.

John Tyler (6-9) did play one game on Thursday, a 57-49 loss to Class 4A No. 15 Center, which outscored JT 21-5 in the third quarter.

Mashaud Moore paced the Lions with 18 while Gerald Berry Jr. added 10.



John Tyler finished 2-1 in pool play after wins over Lufkin and Buna on Wednesday.

The Lions return to 11-6A play on Tuesday with a road trip to face Rockwall-Heath at 7 p.m.
