MARSHALL – Siblings Mashaud and Darry Moore combined for 41 points to help John Tyler defeat Marshall on Tuesday.

Mashaud, a senior, poured in a game-high 25 points while Darry, a sophomore, was next for the Lions (3-4) with 16.

John Tyler bounced back from a 57-53 loss to Hallsville on Friday.

“Kind of had a lot of hangover from the Hallsville game and took a little time to get going,” JT coach Cedeno Clark said. “Every quarter scoring wise we got stronger.

“We’re just still striving to be the best we can be offensively and defensively.”

Lady Raiders hold off Lindale, 38-33

Robert E. Lee got past a determined Lindale team by turning up its intensity in the second half of a 38-33 win Tuesday in a non-district girls game at Varsity Gymnasium. REL coach Ross Barber was pleased to get the victory, but said the Lady Raiders “have a lot of room for improvement.”

“We missed a lot of easy shots and we were not smart with the basketball,” Barber said. “We had 19 turnovers and 12 of them were unforced.”

REL junior guard JaKayla Bowie scored 15 points and freshman post Aaliyah Morgan added 14 points to lead the Lady Raiders on offense.

“We gutted out a close win, and with a young team, as bad as we tried to give this away, we found a way to win,” Barber said.

Lee (5-3) will next begin play in the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro. The Lady Raiders open up Thursday against Marshall at 9:15 a.m. in the Brownsboro Intermediate School gym.
