John Tyler senior quarterback Bryson Smith threw for 3,277 yards and ran for 1,653 yards totaling 55 touchdowns to be named the District 11-6A Most Valuable Player.

Smith made it two MVP awards in a row after earning the honor last year in District 16-5A. He guided the Lions (11-2) to a share of the 11-6A title with Longview.

Senior linebacker Shaundrick Williams, Smith’s fellow captain for John Tyler, was named Defensive Player of the Year after racking up 110 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Robert E. Lee running back Ladarius Wickware was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year. The sophomore amassed 1,404 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing, averaging 8.0 yards per carry.

John Tyler’s Ricklan Holmes was named Coach of the Year.

Rockwall senior receiver Sam Crawford earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, Rockwall sophomore safety Anfernee Orji was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year and senior kick returners Reggie Roberson of Mesquite Horn and Chance Fisher of Mesquite shared Special Teams Player of the Year honors.

John Tyler had 18 players named either a superlative or to the first or second team, with eight more named honorable mention. Robert E. Lee had 12 players named first or second team, with 10 more named honorable mention.

First-team selections for the Lions were: running back Cameron Grant, receiver Damion Miller, receiver Michael Givens-Washington, center Dau’Quawn Montgomery, defensive end Dekalen Goodson, inside linebacker Martrevious Allison and corner Javontavius Mosley.

First-team selections for the Red Raiders were: quarterback Chance Amie, offensive lineman Davone Morgan, offensive lineman Jordan Jones, defensive lineman Campbell Miller, defensive lineman Nathan Niedrauer, outside linebacker Rhett Parker and safety Makyle Sanders.

Second-team selections for John Tyler were: receiver Devlen Woods, offensive lineman Samuel Meneses, offensive lineman Ja’Braylen Yarber, kicker Devan Salazar, defensive lineman Howard Hawkins, defensive lineman Gregorio Guerrero, outside linebacker Kiante Stoker, outside linebacker Dewayne Jones and corner Kieran Freeman.

Second-team selections for Lee were: receiver Isaiah Davison, offensive lineman Marcus Shirley, offensive lineman Santos Perez, defensive lineman Parker Musselwhite and safety Triston Wesley.
