Aggie Mothers’ Club hosting ice cream social
The Tyler Aggie Mothers’ Club will host an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Pollard United Methodist Church, 3030 Copeland Road.
The event will provide an opportunity for Aggie Moms to meet each other.
Aggie Moms’ clubs have been a tradition at Texas A&M since 1922. The purpose of the nonprofit organization is to support Aggie students, learn more about Texas A&M and its traditions, build friendships with other moms, and raise money for student scholarships.

3-day rodeo coming to Tyler starting Friday
The third annual Rose City Roundup is set to take place Friday through Sunday at the Cross Brand Cowboy Church Arena, at the corner of Pine Springs Road and Farm-to-Market Road 2015 in Tyler.
The professional rodeo will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Animal art show and fundraiser on Saturday
The Paws in the Brick Street Village animal art show and fundraiser will take place Friday and Saturday, beginning at Life with Pets, 300 W. Rusk St., before moving to other locations near the store.
Attendees at the two-day event will be able to shop for quilting and sewing supplies, women’s apparel, antiques, handmade soaps, home décor, plants, yard art, pet supplies, flowers, crafts, wigs, gifts and more.
Dog adoptions will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Circle Star Pet Resort will give free training tips and demonstrations. The art show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The art show and fundraiser will benefit The Fund for Animals.

John Tyler Class of ‘81 plans 35th reunion
The John Tyler High School Class of 1981 will celebrate its 35th reunion Sept. 23 and 24.
Two days of events are planned for the class to reminisce and rekindle friendships.

Alzheimer’s 5K walk slated for Longview
The Alzheimer’s Association will hold its Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Heritage Plaza in downtown Longview.
Registration and check-in begins at 7 a.m. The opening program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K walk will kick off immediately after.
Participants are encouraged to bring their families, friends and neighbors for a morning of exercise and entertainment.
There is no charge to join the walk. However, it is encouraged to donate and raise money to help the affected families and to fuel research for a cure. Special-edition T-shirts will be available to walkers who raise $100 or more. You can create a team and ask your friends to pledge their support as you walk by registering at www.act.alz.org/easttexaswalk.
The Alzheimer’s Association offers numerous services in East Texas to support families who are impacted by this mind-robbing disease. The upcoming local “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” is part of the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for the care, support and research into treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s.

Sight.org benefit to feature music, auction
Sight.org will present “The Joy of Sight” on Oct. 4 at Callynth Photography Studio, 117 E. Erwin St. The event will feature art by local artists, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and live music.
All proceeds will be used to help Sight.org fulfill its mission to help provide sight to the blind in Togo, Africa.

Ovarian cancer group hosting golf tourney
The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition will be hosting the first Cathy’s Project Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 26 at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club, 700 Eagle’s Bluff Blvd. in Bullard.
This event is being held in memory of Cathy Van Antwerp, a longtime member of both Eagle’s Bluff and Emerald Bay golf clubs, who fought bravely for more than four years and eventually lost her battle with ovarian cancer last July.
Before her passing, she and her husband partnered with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to launch an Earlier Awareness Initiative.
Registration will open at noon, and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Pre-registration for the event is required by Sept. 19.
The cost to participate is $350 for a foursome, $100 for an individual, $30 for dinner only, and $50 for a dedication flag. Fees include the use of golf carts; a hole-in-one Rolex, sponsored by Susan Robinson Jewelry; a closest-to-the-pin prize, sponsored by BMW of Tyler, longest drive men/women sponsored by Swann’s Furniture and dinner.

Children’s Park to host annual memorial day
The 14th Annual Day of Remembrance Ceremony at The Children’s Park of Tyler will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the park, at 110 E. Dobbs St.
The ceremony will commemorate the lives of children who have passed away. Anyone who has been touched by the loss of a child is welcome to attend.
“The Day of Remembrance Ceremony provides a safe place for families who have experienced the loss of a child to come together, to remember their children and to grieve the tremendous loss in their lives,” said Jennifer Carson, executive director of The Children’s Park.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and admission is free. T-shirts with your child’s name included are available through preregistration until Sept. 12.

Golf tournament to benefit Salvation Army
The sixth annual Tee Off for Toys Golf Tournament will take place Sept. 26 at Hide-A-Way Lake Golf Course, 101 Hide-A-Way Lane Central, in Hideaway.
Hosted by the Tyler Professional Firefighter Association, participants will play in a four-person scramble to benefit The Salvation Army’s annual Angel Tree program.
Each player is asked to bring an unwrapped toy worth at least $10.
Registration is available now online and will be open at 9 a.m. the day of the event. A putting contest will take place at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament will start at 11 a.m.
Prizes will be given for first, second and third place winners.
