Corpus Christi Top Shots Pistol Team of Texas takes JV Division rimfire pistol national title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lone Star State’s Corpus Christi Top Shots Pistol Team took the national title with their team time of 270.70 seconds in the Junior Varsity Division in Rimfire Pistol competition at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

The Texas squad was led by Robert Alexander Little of Corpus Christi with 52.77, followed by Mark Valverde (Corpus Christi) with 63.54, Ramses Barfield (Portland) with 69.69 and Jacob White (Corpus Christi) with 84.70.
Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, 320-plus athletes representing 17 states put over 55,000 rounds down range during eight days of competition in the sport of Speed Shooting. The format of the match has shooters facing four stages, each with five steel plates. Racing against an electronic timer, each stage is designed to test a shooter’s speed and accuracy.
The Mason-Dixon Clay Busters Pistol Squad from Pennsylvania placed second with their time of 319.65. The Clay Busters were led by David Bell (Dallastown) with 61.58, followed by Carson DeVoe (Stewartstown) with 65.79, Rachel Sauers (Hanover) with 73.13 and Emily Simmons (Stewartstown) with 119.15.
Third place in the division went to the Ohio Steel Stingers. Dustin Darnell (Hamilton) led the team with 64.66, followed by Trevor Payne (Trenton) with 74.01, Brianna Kilbane (Hamilton) with 94.13 and Abby Schmit (Hamilton) with 95.59, for a team total of 328.39.
The Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sport of Speed Shooting to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills.
Nationally, there are over 1,300 students and more than 400 coaches from 31 states participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program.
