Saturday’s third annual Downtown Tyler Wine Swirl will feature Kupira Marimba, an Austin-based band that plays high-energy African marimba music on gigantic wooden xylophones.

“I saw this band play at a conference a year or so ago,” said Beverly Abell of the City of Tyler Main Street Department. “I fell in love with their fun, uplifting music. They will definitely make people want to get up and dance.”

Kupira Marimba will play three sets: at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Acoustic musician and Tyler native Simon Young will also perform.

Seven area artists will have booths featuring juried artwork along the Wine Swirl path. The selected artists and their genres are: Freda Miller, painted wine glasses and original acrylics; Dana Lynch, original artwork; Jeffrey Olver, caricatures; Sylvia Morse, jewelry and pottery; Judy Seamands, original artwork; Dace Lucia Kidd, original artwork and art plates and Darlene Rouse, original artwork.

The Wine Swirl, a popular fundraiser for the City of Tyler Main Street Department, will begin at 6 p.m.

Participants start their evening at Gallery Main Street, 110 W. Erwin St., where they will receive a wine glass, plate and map of venues. Participants “swirl” from site to site, getting a small sample of wine and food at each location.

Wine may also be purchased by the glass and by the bottle.

Only ticket-holders can participate. Tickets and more information are available at TylerWineSwirl.com. Only 500 tickets are sold.
