Two players with Tyler ties were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft on Friday.

Texas A&M outfielder J.B. Moss, who played at The Brook Hill School in Bullard and is a native of Tyler, and Mississippi State pitcher Daniel Brown, who played at Tyler Junior College, were picked on the second day of the draft.

Moss was selected by the Atlanta Braves, while Brown went to the Milwaukee Brewers. Both were taken in the seventh round, just a couple of picks apart.

Moss and Brown are both competing in Super Regionals this weekend.

Prior to the draft Moss said he hoped to be taken by either the Texas Rangers or the Braves.

A former high school and college teammate of Moss, AJ Minter is a member of the Braves organization. Moss was the 199th overall selection.

Entering Friday’s game with TCU, Moss was hitting .325 with 42 RBIs, 17 doubles, four triples and five home runs.

Brown, who graduated from Mount Vernon High School, was the 201st overall selection.

While at TJC, Brown was named the 2014 NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year after finishing with the best record in the nation at 10-1. He helped lead TJC to the NJCAA DIII national championship. He racked up 87 strikeouts, second most in the country, with an ERA of 1.76 and only 36 hits allowed in 71 2.3 innings of work.

Brown spent one year at TJC before heading to Starkville. He is a junior.

Brown, who pitched in the Super Regionals against Arizona on Friday, has a 4-2 record with a 3.62 ERA in 22 appearances. Against the Wildcats, a 1-0 loss by the Bulldogs, Brown pitched 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
