Nelson Clyde: Is It Just Me: People pile on poor pepper shakers pet peeves

Last week, we discussed varying pet peeves, including restaurant pepper shakers.

Most only work if you unscrew the top. We then asked for your peeves.

Apparently, in spite of the beautiful weather, there is an epidemic of peeves. Not to pile on from last week, but my buddy, Dudley, and I agreed that the prettier a salt or peppershaker is the less functionality it is likely to have.

Here is your list:

Waiters who bring drink refills without asking. Then I feel obligated to drink some or most of the refill. Just ask!

I agree Deason. It really used to get me when I drank iced tea with my lunch and got it just right, a waiter would refill it without asking and make me want to start over!

It seems they must send the salt and pepper fillers to the same training school. The salt shakers are generally jammed so full you cannot get the salt free. And why do they not recognize the pepper grains are not as fine as the salt so maybe the pepper shakers should have larger holes! Just saying! I am the guy who takes the top (if you can) off the peppershaker to save time.

But my main pet peeve is drivers! My wife says I have road rage, but I prefer to call it an astute understanding of driving etiquette! I like to think, “drive around others as you would like them to drive around you!”

For the past five years, I have driven from Jacksonville to Tyler via Hwy 69 to work. I have noticed that people do not understand the meaning of the speed limit sign. For instance 70 mph speed limit means that you should go a minimum of 70 mph and maybe 74 would be a comfortable speed. (I am joking but that is my interpretation) Many think 70 mph means that is the maximum speed so they tend to drive in the 62-68 mph range. Others don’t have a clue because they are texting.

One of my pet peeves is ladies pants. I am 90.

The different closings of ladies pants, they change from one pair to another. So a lady may have, pants with a closing on the left side with a zipper and then a button. Also maybe a pair that zips in the center front with a metal fastener.

Also there may be pants that have elastic inserted in the waist band. These are for the ladies whose weight might fluctuate a smidgen. Then heaven forbid there have been those that zip in the center back with a button on the band.

While the Congress is waiting for the general election to get here, maybe they could pass a bill to settle my pet peeve once and for all.

Whew!

You are so right about the black pepper at restaurants. Your food gets cold before you can grind enough on your food.

Another peeve is at the grocery store or especially at a drive thru at a fast food “joint.” It goes like this. The cashier hands you your change, receipt, paper money and coins all together. If it is at a drive thru, the coins most likely will fall somewhere you don’t intend. Sometimes I ask to have the coins returned separately and they just look at me like I’m crazy. Oh well!
