More than a hundred people were determined to run, come rain or shine, to support one brave little boy in his fight against cancer.

Friends family and community members rallied around Jonah Daily’s family during the 5K Superhero Run Benefit to help the 5-year-old cancer patient.

Jonah has been battling leukemia since early January. Jonah’s aunt, Meleah Daily, organized the event.

“We’re just trying to support them along this journey,” Meleah said. “We’re just here to try to support them along this journey to provide for medical expenses, food, lodging, anything else that might come up.”

Jonah’s father, Ricky, is a vice principal of Higgins Elementary School in Whitehouse. Friends and former co-workers from other schools he has worked at came out to support the family.

“We’ve had several teachers from Whitehouse, Grace and here in Chandler that are coming out to support Ricky,” Meleah said. “They all love him so much.”

Even though Jonah wasn’t feeling well Saturday, he still dressed up in costume hoping he could make it to the race, his father said.

“My son, he is our superhero,” Daily said. “Jonah, ever since he was born, he has loved dressing up like superheroes. Jonah would love this. He wanted to come out but he wasn’t feeling well today. He dressed up in costume and was ready to go.”

Jonah’s little brother, Judson, 3, joined dozens of other children in capes and superhero outfits to lead the runners as they began the race.

Meleah said the family hoped to raise about $3,000 to help with Jonah’s medical expenses, but the fundraiser more than doubled their goal, with $6,569 raised.

“We can’t thank everybody enough, and I just want everybody to know, from the depths of my soul, we are so grateful and thankful for all the support we’ve had,” Daily said. “We don’t know how to thank them, but we just want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts; this means so much.”
