Lindy Bartel testified Tuesday in the Tarrant County court that she awoke to her son’s screams and saw her husband using a box cutter on the boy. The boy, who’s now 9, was treated for his wounds.
Sentencing began moments after the jury’s verdict was read. Brent Bartel faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
His attorney Joetta Keene says he needs to be in a hospital where he can recover from his mental illnesses.
Sentencing is set to continue Friday.
