SOUR LAKE – A 35-yard field goal by Nolan Harvill late in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Hardin-Jefferson escaped with a 37-34 win over the Tatum Eagles on Friday.
Harvill’s boot put Hardin-Jefferson (2-4) comfortably in front, but Tatum (0-5) scored twice in the final 2:58 to make it interesting.

Tatum took an early lead in the contest when Dacalen Hicks tossed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Denarius Earl just 11 seconds into the contest, but Hardin-Jefferson answered with a 15-yard run by Talon Tilley.
Hicks then hit Jamaine Moore on a 21-yard scoring strike, and after an 8-yard touchdown run by Logan Thompson for Hardin-Jefferson Lamarcus Harmon bolted 17-yards for a Tatum touchdown to cap a wild first quarter.
Deshon Moreaux’s 24-yard touchdown run early in the second kept Hardin-Jefferson close, but Jesus Sandoval booted a 26-yard field goal as time expired to send Tatum in at halftime with a 21-20 lead.
Hardin-Jefferson moved in front with TD runs of 1 and 29 yards by Thompson and Moreaux, and then Harvill kicked what proved to be the game-winner with 3:@3 to play.
Tatum kept it close with a 64-yard touchdown pass that started with a Hicks to Moore completion. Moore then tossed the ball to Earl to complete the play with 2:58 to play.
Tatum’s final score came at the 1:18 mark on a 23-yard TD pass from Hicks to K.J. Boyd.
