Tyler Paper Outdoors continues to offer a pair of hunts, the first in October for dove and the second in December for geese, sandhill cranes and ducks.

The first hunt will be a return trip to the Coleman County area Oct. 19 to 21 to hunt dove. Cost of the hunt is $450 and includes lodging and meals.

Hunting with Lone Star Trails outfitters, owner Dusty Greaves said the advantage to the late season hunt is more comfortable weather for the hunters and the ability to hunt populations of dove that are more stable than those earlier in the season that are preparing to migrate.

An opening three-day trip with the outfitter in September for 10 hunters proved to be successful even though the birds were scattered more than they have been in previous years.

The upcoming hunt may be for mourning doves, white-winged dove or a combination.

Accommodations will be on the Hemphill Ranch located between Coleman and Baird.

Hunters will arrive after lunch on Oct. 19 for an evening hunt, followed by an all-day hunt if necessary the second day and another half-day the final day.

A waterfowl hunt for geese, ducks and sandhill cranes is scheduled Dec. 27 to 29 with Ranger Creek Goose Outfitters in Haskell County.

Cost of the hunt is $950 for adults and $750 for youth 14 and under. That will include two morning and one afternoon hunts, lodging and meals. There are 10 slots open for the hunt.

In good years like this year’s expected winter, upwards of 500,000 lesser Canada and speckled-belly geese are expected.

Depending on how the birds are working, geese will be hunting from either layout blinds in fields or duck hunting-style blinds around lakes.

The first morning will be for geese and the second for cranes if bird numbers allow. There will be a duck hunt from layout blinds around lakes the first afternoon.

Lodging for the hunt will be located at the T-Diamond Ranch lodge located between Hamlin and Aspermont. Hunters will arrive for supper on Dec. 27 and will break camp after the second morning’s hunt.
