(AP) — On this date in 1975, former Teamsters union president Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in suburban Detroit; although presumed dead, his remains have never been found.
The New York Daily News is reporting this morning (http://nydn.us/1VOgZ5c) that a former mob boss said authorities were on the right track when they searched a toxic waste dump in New Jersey. The most credible theory on the Hoffa disappearance is that he was killed on a farm in Michigan, and the body was driven to the toxic dump in New Jersey, where it was put into a 55-gallon drum and buried.

One of the most popular urban legends surrounding the case is that Hoffa’s body was buried under the west end zone of Giants stadium in New Jersey. That end zone has not been dug up.
