The University of Texas at Tyler will offer a board-registered professional certificate program in financial planning this fall, Dr. James Lumpkin, College of Business and Technology dean, announced.

UT Tyler has partnered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. to provide this new financial planning professional certificate program at the university.

“We designed this program with the East Texas working professional in mind,” Dr. Roger Lirely, UT Tyler Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Law chair and program director, said. “To minimize lost work time and reduce travel costs, about half the class meeting time is online, with the other half meeting face-to-face on 16 Saturdays during the eight-month program.”

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the CFPᆴ and Certified Financial PlannerTM certification marks, which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements.

In turn, UT Tyler students completing the financial planning program will have met the education requirement for the CFPᆴ Certification Examination administered by the board.
