East Texas Pipeline — Hayes claims to two events at C-USA Track & Field meet

Keyunta Hayes added to his illustrious career at UT San Antonio by winning two more individual events and leading the Roadrunners to a successful defense of their Conference USA men’s track and field title last weekend.
Hayes, a hurdler who went to Robert E. Lee, won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.89 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.50. The 400 title was his fourth conference title in the event, and the 110 title was the third conference title of his career.

Hayes, a former All-American, will complete in the NCAA Preliminary Rounds next weekend in Austin, with the hope of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in June.
Trio of East Texas players
on ASC Baseball Team
A handful of East Texas products were named to the All-American Southwest Conference baseball team recently.
Former Whitehouse product Kevan House earned first-team honors for UT Tyler, which reached the Division III playoffs before losing to Linfield (Oregn). The senior designated hitter led the Patriots with a .394 batting average. He also pitched in six home runs and 27 RBIs.

Hallsville’s Justin Jenkins earned second-team honors as a starting pitcher. The LeTourneau senior led the team in victories (6-3), earned run average (1.33), innings (101) and strikeouts (91). He gave up just one home run.
House and Jenkins were also named to the D3Baseball.com West Region third team earlier this week.
LeTourneau’s David Perkins, a senior from Longview Pine Tree, was named honorable mention as a first baseman after hitting .282 with 10 RBIs.
ET PAIR OFF TO NCAA NATIONALS
James Lundy scored 14 points in the Lone Star Conference Track and Field Championships recently, allowing him to earn All-LSC Track honors for the season.
Lundy, a senior from Crockett, came in third in the decathlon and the high jump. He will compete in the high jump at the NCAA Division II National Championships this weekend at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.
Holly Cunigan, a sophomore from Wills Point, will complete in the shot put at nationals, a feat she accomplished during the indoor season. During the indoor season she earned second-team All-America honors and is ranked No. 10 in the shot put nationally in the outdoor season.
SFA TRACKSTERS PERFORM WELL AT SLC
Stephen F. Austin swept the men’s and women’s title at the Southland Conference Track and Field Championships last weekend, and several East Texas products helped the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks along the way.
Harmony’s Daven Murphree finished third in the pole vault with a best of 16 feet, 6 inches. … Grand Saline’s Lucas Akins finished fifth in the shot put, javelin and discus to accumulate points in all three events. Jared Love of Longview set a personal best of 10.41 in the men’s 100 meters. Canton’s Cody Brown came in fifth in the 5,000 meters.
Ashley Gadson of Sabine helped the Ladyjacks with a second-place finish in the high jump.
BRIEFLY …
Longview’s Kiersten Brewer wrapped up her regular season with the University of Houston during the American Athletic Conference meet last weekend. She ran a season-best 12.10 in the 100-meter dash, which was good for 11th in the event. Brewer will get an opportunity to make her case for the NCAA Championships during the NCAA Preliminary event next weekend in Austin. Brewer is a senior. … Henderson’s Karley Free, a freshman at Mary Hardin-Baylor, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association West Region third team earlier this week.
