Maybe the executives at Nike saw black when viewing the infamous “dress” that took over the Internet and social media earlier this year?

Maybe one or all of the Nike executives are colorblind?

What other explanation is there for the U.S. Women’s National Team’s home jerseys for the 2015 World Cup to be black and white!

Correct me if I am wrong, but the colors of this country are red, white and blue. That is what the American flag is comprised of: red and white stripes and white stars on a blue background.

There is not a hint of the black and/or florescent green ANYWHERE when discussing our national colors.

Well, the uniform is white, so I guess Nike can take credit in getting that right. But the shorts have a black stripe and the socks are florescent.

It’s ridiculous.

Whoever suggested this and agreed to it are both very wrong.

This will be the first time ever that I can remember a jersey representing the USA not representing our country’s colors. It is pretty much 100 percent that even any professional team that has freedom, revolution or patriots as their mascots are represented by red, white and blue.

Off the top of my head I can think of one NFL team and one MLS team that follow this rule: the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and defending MLS finalist New England Revolution.

The New York Yankees are dark navy blue and white. Okay, no red, so put the USWNT in pinstripes when they play an exhibition game at Yankee Stadium. That I could at least understand, but this needs to be changed immediately.

Maybe it’s because I grew up outside of the USA that this offends me more than most. Displaying the American flag was not allowed in Saudi Arabia. Everywhere you looked, it was green and white (colors of the Saudi flag), which is what one would expect.

In fact, the only time I can remember seeing an American flag flying was when my Boy Scout Troop visited the U.S. Consulate in Dhahran.

The Olympics on television represented an opportunity also because you got to see the flag and hear the national anthem played when a gold medal was won. At the very least, the athletes would be donning red, white and blue uniforms. The World Cup was another chance to see Americans in action on the world stage, with players and fans alike donning the national colors.

And they were not black and florescent green.

Nike probably believes these new black and white uniforms will be more marketable to a younger generation.

Well, I don’t care.

I expect the athletes who represent this country abroad to wear the colors of this country.

What makes it worse is the USA has a serious opportunity to win the 2015 World Cup, so we will probably be watching those black and white jerseys a lot this summer.

The away jerseys for the USA are red, white and blue similar to the “Bomb Pop” ones the men wore last summer in Brazil.

The home jerseys need a similar look.

I hope Nike recognizes this and goes back to the drawing board quickly. There is still time to fix this mistake before the first match in Canada.
