CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Other aquariums have offered to donate animals as the Texas State Aquarium assesses the death toll in a fish kill blamed on a chemical targeting parasites.

The not-for-profit educational facility in Corpus Christi remained open Friday but reduced entry prices.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports officials are trying to determine how many fish died. Authorities believe an anti-parasite medication caused the deaths that began Tuesday in several exhibits, affecting about 20 percent of the facility.

All but a few of the fish, eels and sharks in the 40,000-gallon Flower Gardens and 125,000-gallon Islands of Steel exhibits perished. A large tiger shark named Hans, at the aquarium since the attraction opened in 1990, was among the dead.

The Texas State Aquarium receives no government funding.
