Azalea 10k, 5k set for Saturday

The annual Tyler Azalea 10K is scheduled for Saturday at Bergfeld Park, 1510 S. College Ave.

New this year is a 5K course. There will also be a children’s 50-yard dash.



The run is staged on one of the most beautiful courses in Texas.

Runners will see mile after mile of azaleas, dogwood trees and spring flowers.

The race is partnering with the Azalea Trail arts and crafts fair this year.

More than 90 vendors are expected at Bergfeld Park.

The 10K fees are: $45 (through Thursday) and $50 (Friday and Saturday).

The 5K fees are: $20 (children 12 & under through race day), $25 (adults through Friday) and $30 (race day).

The race benefits The Children’s Village, a charitable, nonprofit corporation.

The Children’s Village’s purpose is to provide 24-hour residential foster care to neglected, abused and abandoned children from the Tyler, Smith County and Northeast Texas area.

Packet pickup on Friday is at Academy Sports & Outdoors, 8668 S. Broadway Ave. from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. You may also register and/or pick your packet up race morning at the event; however packet pickup closes at 7:40 a.m.

Saturday’s schedule includes:

6:30-7:40 a.m. — Late registration

7:45 a.m. — 50-yard dash

8 a.m. — 10K

8:10 a.m. — 5K

8:30 a.m. — Post-race festivities

9:45 a.m. — 5K and 10K awards
