Robert E. Lee freshman Jakayla Bowie started every game for the Lady Raiders in district play. She led the Lady Raiders with 10.4 points per game and was second in rebounds with six per game to go along with two steals per contest.

Her efforts helped REL return to the postseason for the first time since 2012.

The other coaches in the district took notice, voting Bowie Newcomer of the Year for the All-District 11-6A girls basketball team.

Joining Bowie on the team are teammates Tree Brooks and Erin Brinkley. Brooks, a senior guard, was named to the first team while Brinkley, a junior forward, was named to the second team. Brooks averaged 9.8 points and three steals per game, with Brinkley scoring 10.2 points and grabbing eight rebounds per contest.

Lee players who received honorable mention were seniors Alex Thorne, Berjae Lewis and Olivia Eweni.

There was a three-way tie for first place in the district between Rockwall, Garland Sachse and Lakeview Centennial. Those three teams took up the majority of superlative and first-team selections.

Rockwall senior Sarah Williamson and Sachse senior Ashley Hearn shared Most Valuable Player honors, with Sachse junior Courtney Blankenship chosen Offensive Player of the Year and Rockwall senior Krystal Contreras named Defensive Player of the Year. Rockwall coach Kasie Brewer was voted Coach of the Year.
