Cherokee County Republican Club to hold annual Christmas party, meeting

The Cherokee County Republican Club will hold its annual Christmas party meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodmen of the World Building, 1800 S. College St. in Jacksonville.

Speakers will include state Rep. Travis Clardy, R-Nacogdoches. John Marler will speak on Agenda 21.The club will provide a covered-dish dinner with meat and paper goods.

The club will also help the local Marine Corp League collect Toys for Tots and food drive for Hope Inc. and Good Samaritan food banks.

GRASSROOTS AMERICA

Grassroots America — We the People will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, 10818 University Blvd. in Tyler.

The group will hold a panel discussion, “Peace of Mind,” regarding mental health reforms.

According to the news release, “Reforming mental health care will be an important state legislative issue for the 84th Texas legislative session beginning in January.   Numerous overlapping, duplicated mental health efforts, which can be both inefficient and ineffective will be discussed along with proposed solutions.”

Doug McSwane, local mental health care reform advocate; Valerie Holcomb, Andrews Center; Fonda Latham, Samaritan Counseling Center; and  Jeffery R. Matthews, UT Health Center Northeast, will participate in the discussion.
